Internet Fax to email

Is HIPAA Compliant Faxing Required?

hipaa faxing online

We provide HIPAA compliant faxing and get a lot of questions about the rules. Of course, out formal answer is ‘Ask your corporate attorney…’ However, here’s our experience;
When you receive a normal fax, it arrives in your inbox as a PDF attachment.
For HIPAA faxes, you receive an e-mail requiring a password to open the PDF. This is an extra step to keep it secure. Then, you can download the fax or send it off to someone else. If your local computer, or whoever you send it to, is not secure than those compliance precautions are not really effective.
Some medical offices tell us that their e-mail is secure and follows all HIPAA rules. They claim to then not need the secure fax process.
We can provide the e-mail fax service either way, without any additional charges.

You can open a new account at FAXtopia for just $9.95 a month with no set up fee or long term contracts.

You can transfer your existing fax number to our fully compliant service.
